Paper Submission Guidelines
SIGCOMM requires that papers not be submitted simultaneously to any other conference or publication, and that submissions not be previously published. Extended versions of previously-published short preliminary papers (such as workshop papers) will be reviewed in accordance with SIGCOMM policy. Authors of accepted papers will need to sign an ACM copyright release form. Electronic copies of the camera-ready papers will be published on the conference web site before the conference, unless authors specifically request that this not be done.
To submit papers to the SIGCOMM 2008 conference, please read carefully the anonymity and formatting guidelines on this page and make sure that your submission complies with the requirements.

Anonymity Guidelines
All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality and relevance through double-blind reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. As an author, you are required to make a good faith effort to preserve the anonymity of your submission, while at the same time allowing the reader to fully grasp the context of related past work, including your own. Common sense and careful writing will go a long way towards preserving anonymity. Minimally, please take the following steps when preparing your submission:
- Remove authors' names and affiliations from the title page.
- Remove acknowledgment of identifying names and funding sources.
- Use care in naming your files. Source file names, e.g., Joe.Smith.dvi, are often embedded in the final output as readily accessible comments.
- Use care in referring to related work, particularly your own. Do not omit references to provide anonymity, as this leaves the reviewer unable to grasp the context. Instead, a good solution is to reference your past work in the third person, just as you would any other piece of related work.
The requirement for anonymity is not meant to extend beyond the submission process to the detriment of your research. In particular, you may circulate your submission among colleagues or discuss it on a mailing list if you see fit.
Formatting Guidelines
All submissions must follow strictly the format and size constraints indicated below. Your goal as an author is to produce a clearly readable submission within these constraints. Please refrain from exceeding these limits, because longer submissions and/or papers with modified margins or fonts may not be reviewed.
We will use an automatic tool that checks if your submitted paper violates the following guidelines. This automated PDF-checker tool is integrated into our web conference management system. After you upload your paper, you can use it yourself. The tool will tell you whether or not you pass a variety of checks. If you fail the basic tests, please correct your paper and upload a new version. This tool will be used as a guideline to identify non-confirming papers. No paper will be rejected due to format violations without being hand checked first.
- Submissions MUST be no more than fourteen (14) pages in 10 point Times Roman (or equivalent font). This length includes everything: figures, tables, references, appendices and so forth.
- Submissions MUST follow ACM guidelines: double column, with each column 9.25" by 3.33", 0.33" space between columns.
- Each column MUST contain no more than 55 lines of text.
- NOTE: For the submission, you may use the following LaTeX template to ensure compliance.
- The final copy will be 12 pages using the SIGCOMM standard 9 pt format; this is less than what you might be able to fit in 14 pages at 10pt, and so there is no value in pushing the envelope.
- Provide an abstract of fewer than 200 words.
- Number the pages.
- Do not identify the papers' authors, per the Anonymity Guidelines.
- On the front page, in place of the authors' names, the paper MUST indicate: the paper ID number assigned during the paper registration process and the total number of pages in the submission.
- The paper MUST be submitted in PDF format. Other formats (including Postscript) will not be accepted. We must be able to display and print your submission exactly as we receive it, using only standard tools (Adobe Acrobat Reader), with no loading of special fonts.
- Make sure that the paper prints well on black-and-white printers, not color printers. This is especially true for plots and graphs in the paper.
- Make sure that the output has been formatted for printing on LETTER (8.5" by 11") size paper.
- Make sure that symbols and labels used in the graphs are readable as printed, and not only with a 20x on-screen magnification.
- Try to limit the file size to less than 15 MB.
