The official conference hotel for ACM IMC 2014 is the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel. This 4-star hotel is a 19-story Marriott property located in downtown Vancouver. The address is 1133 West Hastings Street. Reservations can be made online here or via phone at either 1-800-905-8582 or 1-604-689-9211.
Update as of October 20, 2014: The IMC 2014 room block is extremely full! You can try the link above, or call the hotel directly, or use the hotel Web site. If you have trouble getting a room at the conference hotel, then your next best option is to try the Marriott Pinnacle hotel, which is directly across the street from the conference hotel. Further details are provided near the bottom of this page. -- Carey
ACM has negotiated the hotel contract for IMC 2014, and obtained some special deals for the conference, so we encourage you to stay there. All conference activities take place in the hotel, including technical sessions, meals, and the two social events (reception and dinner).
The deadline for making a hotel reservation is October 7, 2014. When making a reservation, please identify yourself as an "ACM IMC 2014" attendee so that you get associated with the conference room block.
The guest room rate for City View rooms is $149 CDN per night plus taxes, while that for Harbour View rooms is $169 CDN per night plus taxes. If your research travel budget permits the upgrade to Harbour View, it is well worth considering, since the hotel overlooks Coal Harbour (see inset photo), Canada Place, and Stanley Park. If you are up high enough, you will likely see lots of float planes flying in and out of the harbour, and the occasional ferry or cruise ship passing by. Taxes total 16.5%, which includes 11.5% in provincial and municipal hotel taxes, plus 5% federal Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Internet access in guest rooms is complimentary for IMC 2014 attendees (normally $15.95 CDN per day, otherwise). Wireless is available in the lobby area, as well as in the p2b Bistro (Place to Be). Wireless Internet access in the meeting space is provided for the conference as well.
Additional information about the hotel is as follows. Check-in time is 3:00pm, and check-out time is 12 noon. All room bookings require either a deposit or a credit card to guarantee the reservation. Cancellation of a reservation must be done at least 72 hours in advance of arrival in order to avoid penalties (i.e., forfeiture of deposit, or charging of credit card).
The hotel offers self-parking and valet parking if you have a rental car. Parking is available at either street level or underground. Parking rates range from $28-36 CDN per day.
The guest room rates for the conference are valid from November 2-10, 2014 if you wish to spend some extra time in Vancouver either before or after the conference. Please be aware that November 11 (Remembrance Day) is a statutory holiday in Canada, which will affect traffic patterns and availability of services on that day.
Here is a Facebook group to facilitate room-sharing arrangements for graduate students, or other discussions of conference travel logistics.
If you are unable to stay at the official conference hotel, then there are lots of other options for you in downtown Vancouver. The closest alternative is the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel, which is a sister hotel of the Renaissance. It is literally right across the street, and only 30 meters away if you jaywalk illegally. Less than a block away is the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel, a very nice business hotel built recently for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
In general, you can expect guest room rates of $130-$180 CDN per night plus taxes for most Vancouver hotels at this (off-peak) time of year. Walking time to the conference should be only 2-5 minutes from most downtown hotels.
