Participant Information


General information


Registration hours

Registration desk will be opened:

We remind you that on-site registration will only be possible by cash or credit card, US dollars only!

Your registration package will contain the participant information, the proceedings, your badge, invitations to social events, and a map of Cannes.

The SIGCOMM conference desk will be opened during the conference hours for special needs, messages, and registration to the pool session, and to additional events.


Lunches and coffee breaks

Lunches will be held in the Salon Ambassadeur (Palais des Festivals) Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday lunch is now included in the registration fees !

Coffee breaks will be served at the conference room level.

In case you want to take a meal outside, the conference desk will have a list of restaurants available.


Internet room hours

An Internet room will be provided with the support of MCI. 20 Computers (15 SUN workstations and 5 PCs) and 20 Ethernet plugs (for laptops) will be available.

The Internet room will be opened 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday.


Electricity and telephone information

Electricity: 220 Volts / 60 Hertz. If you do not have any adapter, you should better buy one before coming (US airports, airlines duty free).

Telephone: RJ11 is available in most of the conference hotels. But in case of problem, adapters are available in local telephone stores.

Note local communications are charged 1 unit per 3 minutes. The price of the unit is from 0.80 francs (public phones) to 2 francs (hotels).

For example, calling the USA costs approximately 4 units per minute...


Tutorial bus shuttle information

The buses will leave from the Palais des Festivals on Sunday and Monday morning at 8:00am. The meeting point is front of the entrance where the sigcomm97 banner is displayed. An INRIA person will be in the bus to help you with special requirements.

A map explaining how to get to the Palais des Festivals will be available at the hotel.

Buses will leave INRIA after the tutorials (around 6:00 pm). Afternoon buses will drop you at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes both days.


Pool session rules

The pool session (Tuesday September 16, beach of the Gray d'Albion hotel) is sponsored by EUTELSAT. It is intended to be an un-formal technical session. The rules of the pool session are the following:


Weather

Weather in south of France is usually quite warm mid-september: around 17 celsius during night, and 23 celsius during daytime (minimums). It is also generally sunny. But there is a non negligible probability of storms in evenings.

Please do not forget a sweater for evening outdoor social events. In case of rain, outdoor events will move to a room.


Bank and shopping information

Any type of shopping is possible in a walking distance from the hotels. Shopping hours are 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. But some tourist places remain open in the evening.

ATTENTION: most of the stores are CLOSED on SUNDAY and MONDAY.

Many different banks and ATMs are available close to the Palais des Festivals. Banks are generally closed on Saturday and Sunday. They close at 4:00 pm.

Restaurants are opened from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm for lunch and 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm for diner. Only Mac Donald is opened all day !


Local transportation

The bus and train network is very reliable in France (except in case of strike !).

The train station and the bus station are located close to the Palais des Festivals. Use bus within Cannes, and trains to go to other cities on the shore. For example, Nice is approximately 30 minutes by train for a 30 Francs fee.
