MobiCom'95 will be held at the Claremont Resort, Spa and Tennis Club located in Berkeley, California at Ashby and Domingo Avenues. The Claremont is a castle-like hotel located on 22 beautifully landscaped acres in the Berkeley Hills, at the Berkeley /Oakland border. It was built in 1915 in time for the Pan-Pacific Exposition, and provides spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. It is 10 minutes from UC Berkeley and half an hour from San Francisco. (Hotel parking $8.00 per day)

Transportation

From Oakland International Airport:

Travel Time: 20 Minutes

Take the Hegenberger Exit out of the airport to Interstate 880 North. Take 880 North to Highway 980 East. Stay on Highway 980 to Highway 24 East (Berkeley/Walnut Creek) . Exit at Claremont Avenue. Turn left on Claremont Avenue and then right on Ashby. Hotel gates will be seen on Ashby on the lefthand side of the road. Super Shuttle Service (410-268-8700) is provided from the Oakland International Airport to the Claremont Hotel Cost: $15.00 for one-way service. BayPorter Express (+1 415 467 1800) provides service for $12.00, but may make intermediate stops.

From San Francisco International Airport:

Travel Time: 40 minutes

Take Highway 101 out of the airport to San Francisco. In San Francisco, take the Bay Bridge Exit. After crossing the Bay Bridge take Highway 24 East. Exit at Claremont Avenue. Turn left on Claremont then right on Ashby. Hotel gates will be seen on Ashby on the left-hand side of the road. Super Shuttle Service (+1 410-268-8700) is provided from the San Francisco International Airport to the Claremont Hotel. Cost: $18.00 for one-way service. BayPorter Express (+1 415-467-1800) provides service for $16.00, but may make intermediate stops.

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)

>From either Oakland or San Francisco take the Condord BART line to the Rockridge exit. Take a cab from outside the BART Station to the hotel. Cab cost is approximately $5. The (downtown) Berkeley station on the Richmond line also works. but is slightly farther from the hotel. On Sundays from Oakland, you must take the Richmond line and either transfer at MacArthur to the Concord line or get off at Berkeley. BART cost is about $3 including the airport bus to BART.

Driving

>From Interstate 880 North take Highway 24 (Berkeley/Walnut Creek) and get off at Claremont Avenue. Turn left on Claremont then right on Ashby. Hotel gates will be seen on Ashby on the left-hand side of the road.

From Interstate 800 South get off at Ashby Avenue and head east to the base of the hills past Claremont Avenue. Hotel gates will be seen on Ashby on the left-hand side of the road.

From Interstate 580 take Highway 13 into Berkeley. It becomes Ashby Avenue and the Claremont will be on your right as you come down the hill into Berkeley.


Weather

Weather in mid November is typically 50s or 60s during the day with a small chance of rain. There is usually a light wind from the bay. San Francisco is slightly cooler and windier.


On-Site Registration

On-site registration will be available on Monday, November 13th between 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. On Tuesday, November 14th it will be held between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 15th between 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.


Demos

For MobiCom95 participants only: You are invited to bring your "untethered node" or mobile project for an informal "cocktail hour" style of demonstration on Tuesday, November 14th. Arrangements should be made with Eric Brewer brewer@cs.berkeley.edu by October 30th. Space is limited and is available only by preregistering your demo with Eric on a "first come, first served" basis.


Open House

The mobility researchers at the University of California at Berkeley invite you to join them immediately after the conference for an open house to view current research by the Infopad and Barwan teams. Maps will be provided at the conference.
